Why do I need my previous vision prescription to get a new one online?

Testing your vision online has become a popular and effective way to conveniently renew your vision prescription for contacts or glasses. Just like an in-person exam, the online experience allows an optometrist or ophthalmologist to gather a patient’s previous prescription, how well they are seeing and their medical history so they can determine whether or not their vision prescription can be renewed or if further care is needed.


Why do you need my prior prescription?

In the online experience, you are connected with a doctor digitally in order for them to provide you with a renewed prescription, they must gather the same information they would have access to during an in-person exam. Your previous prescription is an important piece of information the doctor must assess after you complete the test.


How do I provide the doctor my prior prescription online?

Visibly makes it easy to share your prior prescription with a doctor digitally by giving you multiple ways to do so from our online platform.

 

1. Self Input

If you know your prior vision prescription, Visibly allows you to input your values into the platform for the doctor to review. This includes Power, CYL, AXIS, and a few other values depending on if you have a contacts or glasses prescription.

2. Image Upload

If you have your prior prescription or contact lens box(es), you can also take a photo of them and upload it to our portal. The values from these documents will be collected and shared with the optometrist or ophthalmologist reviewing your test results.


3. Doctor Retrieval  

Sometimes you are not given a paper or digital copy of your vision prescription unless you specifically ask for it. This could make it difficult for you to provide this information to Visibly for a renewal. If you don’t have access to your vision prescription, our Patient Support team can help by calling your doctor’s office and retrieving it on your behalf. All you have to do is email support@govisibly.com asking for assistance in collecting your previous prescription and they will request the needed information from you to do so.
